Day 60 Challenge: How to Improve Typing Speed and Accuracy

Typing is one of the most underrated skills in today’s digital world. Whether you’re coding, writing blogs, or just chatting with friends, being able to type fast and accurately saves time and makes you more productive.

I’m currently on Day 60 of my typing challenge, and I’ve reached around 62 WPM with 93–97% accuracy. That’s above average, but I want to keep improving. In this article, I’ll share practical tips, strategies, and a daily routine you can follow to improve your typing speed and accuracy.

1. Focus on Accuracy Before Speed

Many beginners make the mistake of chasing speed first. But accuracy is the foundation. Typing fast but with errors only slows you down in the long run.
Practice typing slowly at first, ensuring every keystroke is correct. Speed will naturally increase as your fingers memorize the keys.

2. Build Consistency With Daily Practice

Typing is like going to the gym—it’s all about muscle memory. Practicing 15–20 minutes daily is far more effective than typing for hours once a week.
Set aside a fixed time every day for focused typing drills.

3. Use Typing Practice Tools

There are great free tools online that make practice engaging:

  • Monkeytype – customizable practice with fun modes
  • Typingclub – generates random words that focus on weak keys with levels
  • 10FastFingers – great for speed tests and competitions

Rotate between these tools to avoid boredom and train different aspects of typing.

4. Master Proper Hand Placement & Posture

Good posture and technique matter more than you think.

  • Keep fingers on the home row (ASDF & JKL;)
  • Avoid looking at the keyboard—trust your fingers
  • Sit straight with wrists relaxed

This helps prevent mistakes and improves long-term speed.

5. Practice With Real Content

Typing only random words can get boring. Mix it up by practicing with:

  • Blog posts or essays
  • Quotes or book excerpts
  • Programming code (if you’re a coder)

This makes typing more fun and builds practical skill for real-life use.

6. Track Your Progress

One of the best motivators is seeing your growth over time. I keep track of:

  • Words per minute (WPM)
  • Accuracy percentage
  • Time spent practicing

After 60 days, I can see clear improvement—and that keeps me going.

7. Daily Typing Practice Routine

Here’s a simple daily routine to follow:

Total: 20–25 minutes daily.

Final Thoughts

Improving typing is all about patience, consistency, and accuracy. After 60 days, I’ve seen real progress, and I know that if I stay consistent, I’ll reach 70+ WPM with 97–98% accuracy soon.

If you’re starting your own typing journey:

  • Practice daily
  • Focus on accuracy first
  • Track your progress
  • Make it engaging with real content

Typing is not just a skill—it’s an investment in productivity. Start today, follow the routine above, and in 60 days, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come.
